Affording Veterinary Care

Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world with 63% of the population owning a pet. With recent studies showing that pet owners live a happier and healthier life, it’s no wonder pet owners consider their beloved pets to be part of the family. With the current high cost of living and the financial pressure most of us face, covering the cost of high quality veterinary care is almost impossible for some families. This is a familiar theme in veterinary practice.

Sometimes people assume that vets should treat the pets of the people who can't afford medical treatment for no charge, since "vets care about animals." It’s true - vets love and care about animals, but it is also true that the cost of medical supplies, staffing expenses, insurances, equipment, new technology and continuing education all adds up too.

We understand that difficult financial situations can arise in an instant so what do you do if you just can’t afford that urgent procedure your pet needs? Here’s where we can help.

At Cairns Veterinary Clinic, we have partnered with two finance providers so you can get your best buddy treated when needed and then pay over time for the cost of treatment. (Terms and Conditions apply)

Zip Money

Zip Money offers a healthy interest free payment option. With no deposit required, a quick online application can be performed here

VetPay

Vetpay offer an affordable payment plan option providing finance from $300 with the flexibility of contract terms up to 18. Interest rates do apply and a deposit is required. A simple application can be performed at Cairns Veterinary Clinic or alternatively you can apply for pre-approval online here

Whilst we have payment plan options available, we strongly recommend pet insurance. The great thing about pet insurance is it gives pet owners peace of mind that if the unexpected did happen, they can focus on what is the best treatment for their pet rather than worrying about how they would pay the vet bill. There are a number of pet insurance policies available with varying inclusions and exclusions. It’s important to take the time out to review and compare policies carefully to ensure the one you choose is the best one for your pet and budget.
