Cassowary & Chick

Cassowaries are threatened by attacks from stray domestic dogs

The Cairns Region is home to many interesting and beautiful wild animas, such as bandicoots, wallabies, echidnas, crocodiles, lizards (ranging from small geckoes to large goannas), and millions of toads.  We also boast many wonderful birds, from the tiny Gouldian Finch to the enormous Cassowary (both endangered.)

When we bring our pets and families into such a rich natural habitat, we need to take care that our pets don’t damage the ecosystem by hunting or spreading disease, and protect them from the many diseases carried or caused by wild animals such as Tick Paralysis, Cane Toad Poisoning, Leptospirosis, the gecko tapeworm, and pig fight wounds.
